FREE WATER TESTING.

We are testing wells and streams. The testing is performed by Eric Holm of Holm Home Inspecting, he has been testing water for years. The purpose of the testing is to establish a baseline of the existing water quality. DEP regulations DO NOT require pre-testing of areas where mine exploration is taking place. Therefore it is up to us, the citizenry, to test our own water before any more exploratory drilling is done!

You’ ll get a call from Eric Holm with the date for the water testing from your house water so you can plan to be there, tie up your dog, turn on the tap etc.

We are a group of concerned residents volunteering to generate baseline data about our water quality, which is endangered by the proposed “ Big Silver” mine of Wolfden LLC mining company. All residents, and especially those who are within the watersheds of Wilson Stream which flows into Dennys river and the Crow Brook, Meadow Brook or Willow Brook, which all flow towards the Pennamaquan River on the inland side of Rt. 1 in Pembroke are invited to participate in this citizen science initiative to create a public record of our water quality.

As of now, no permits have yet been issued for mining, but there have been exploratory drillings which go deep into the ground. Even exploration endangers the watershed.

As you know, our water table is what provides us all with clean drinking water and well water. The water tables are charged by rain and upland flow, these underground water tables ( aquifer) then extends out to the peninsulas (Leighton Point, Hersey Point, Garnet Point etc). These streams, and the rivers and bays they flow into, are also habitat for many animals: birds, mammals and juvenile fish who could be negatively impacted by upland mining. We believe that establishing a baseline NOW can help us prevent these impacts.
